It looks like the NYPD has put the kibosh on a proposed visit by the ultimate genocidal jihadi, Iran's Ahmadinejad, to Ground Zero in New York--and thank goodness for that. Even so, the Iranian mission in New York is declaring their Thug-in-Chief still plans to lay a wreath at the site on Monday.  Repulsive, says the New York Post. Take Your Wreath and Shove It, says Michelle Malkin.
You bet. But getting to the grown-up question here: Does the Ground Zero Turn-Down mean that adults took charge, at least for the moment, to draw an important line against a foe of the United States and protect our hallowed ground from jihadist  mockery?
Alas, not really and here's why. As Michael Ledeen points out, Iran has been  at war with the U.S. since 1979 when our embassy in Tehran was stormed by jihadist mobs most likely led, in part, by Ahmadinejad himself. We, on the other hand, refuse to acknowledge this ongoing state of war--which continues to this day in Iraq and elsewhere--preferring, childishly, to inhabit a world of pretend. Only this infantile, delusional state could  permit us to treat Ahmadinejad as just another head of state en route to a meeting of the minds at the United Nations, someone who should be accorded all the perks of high office, as in Secret Service protection, motorcades, VIP treatment. If grown-ups were in charge, Ahmadinejad wouldn't be  permitted to travel to this country in the first place.
The officials who nixed the Iranian trip to G.Z. are to be commended, but we can't say adults are calling the shots. The childish policy of pretend vis a vis Iran remains fixedly in place, and New York City is in a tizzy over whether it has the power to prevent Ahmadinejad from going ahead, even without official permission, and making the trip. Grow up, and throw the bum out.
