Selections from a lively mailbag on my most recent syndicated column: "Execrable Harry Reid Is No Joe McCarthy" indicate that outside the punditry and political class at least there are Americans who are familiar with the facts the about Sen. McCarthy.

Go get Em, Ms. West. I have been truly amazed by how many patriotic Americans have swallowed the lies about McCarthy. I am always glad to read one of your articles warning us of the depth and width of infiltration occurring throughout our Federal government. Perhaps Mr. Hanson and others will dig deeper to find the truth, thanks to your persistence.
Sincerely,

XXXX

Thank you for standing for truth in answering Victor Davis Hanson's column comparing Harry Reid to Joseph McCarthy. I am old enough to remember watching some of McCarthy's hearings on our 12 inch black and white television and listening to my parents comments about how the senator was made to look like a fool by those supposedly in the know.  Your book was validation of things I remember hearing from my parents about McCarthy's courage and I am delighted you took on another of those media darlings who hurl stones at a man without sufficient evidence to justify them.  Please keep up your efforts to awaken a country which sadly is deep in sleep.

Diana,

Thank you for your recent article debunking the never-ending mythology on Joe McCarthy. Having lived for many years in the former Soviet Union, and as a student of (true) history, it is a source of never-ending frustration to encounter the continued assassination of McCarthy's character and relentless assault on the truth; it is doubly discouraging to witness the ignorant and erroneous place allocated McCarthy in the popular mind.

Keep up the great work!

Thank you Ms. West! Being from Wisconsin I appreciate your truthful reply to Victor Davis Hanson. I remember some of the events from that time, being 74 years of age. And You are absolutely correct.

Very well said ! I concur having read Mr. Evans' book !

Dear Ms. West,

I really enjoy Mr. Hanson’s columns and look forward to reading them.  However, he was obviously not well informed in comparing Senator Reid’s lies to the work done by Senator McCarthy.  Thank you for setting the record straight.

I also thoroughly appreciate you thoughtful and informative columns.

Sincerely,

Ms. West,

Thank you for your piece vindicating a great American.  On April 24, the day that Dr. Hanson's article was published, I wrote to Shmooze@jewishworldreview.com:

I think that Dr. Hanson does not do Senator Joseph McCarthy justice in this piece.  I understand what he is trying to say and I agree with his assessment of Harry Reid, but Sen. McCarthy was an American patriot whose assessment of the Communist threat was correct.  Since the fall of the Soviet Union and the declassification of many of its and our Cold War-era documents, he has been proven correct.  Certainly he lacked style and made ad hominum attacks against his detractors, but he was right.  And the current rulers of this country are proof of that. Marxism -- the gift that keeps on giving.

Thank you for saying it so much better and so much more publicly than I ever could.

Respectfully yours,

XXXX

Diana,

Kudos for your piece on VDH story and McCarthy. We could use him investigating this government !

Thanks.

XXXX

Diana,

I like Hanson’s work and enjoy reading him (he does a good job of looking into the motives of our dear leader). But your piece today on his Reid/McCarthy article is a short, concise, tour de force. I will approach everything he writes from now on with a more critical eye. Wow!

I would expect some sort of answer from him, but I don’t know how he recovers from your roundhouse punch.  He’s got to be feeling pretty winded right now.

You take no prisoners, and you are fearless.  Once again, you’ve caused me to question everything I think I know about history—and historians.
