No one needed high-tech surveillance, a FISA court or illegal "unmasking" to pick up that infamous exchange between Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev during the 2012 presidential campaign, when Obama was videotaped telling Medvedev he would have more "flexibility" on missile defense after his "last election."

“I understand,” Medvedev told the U.S. president. “I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”

What is truly rich is the Washington Post news report's spin:

The exchange provided a rare glimpse of a world leader speaking frankly about the political realities he faces at home."

Now, imagine if it had been Jared talking to Russian Ambassador Kislyak instead...

Before I "run the tape," please note I am only changing Obama's first-person references to indicate that "Jared" is talking about President Trump.

"JARED": On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give [my father in law] space.”

"KISLYAK": Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for [him]. . .”

"JARED": This is [his] last election. After [his] election, [he'll] have more flexibility.”

"KISLYAK": I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

Think the Post and the rest would go all chills and wistfulness over this private conversation, explaining to readers that the"Jared-Kislyak" exchange offered that rare glimpse of a top advisor to a world leader speaking frankly about the political realities he faces at home ...

Nope. They'd call for impeachment.

Then, as now, national security is the last thing on their mind.
